Let's draw a cartoon school backpack with an apple keychain
Treat this as one playful practice round: sketch the idea loosely, simplify the shapes, then commit with confident marker outlines and bright fills.

Draw one connected bag guide
Use pale pencil to draw one connected tall rounded-rectangle backpack guide with a centerline, a lower pocket box, exactly two short outer shoulder ticks, and one zipper anchor on the right edge of the pocket box.
Marker tip: Keep this first frame under two minutes. The rounded guide must be one unbroken shape; the two ticks only locate future shoulder straps, and the zipper anchor reserves the apple's final attachment point.

Connect the backpack body
Trace the upright rounded bag body and short top handle over the same connected guide while leaving the two shoulder ticks and the pocket box visible.
Marker tip: Pull each side of the bag in one long relaxed curve. Do not move the pocket box or zipper anchor: they already fix the keychain's eventual location.

Add the outer straps and flap
Draw exactly two curved shoulder straps outside the bag from the two upper ticks to the lower outer sides, then add one rounded top flap above the body.
Marker tip: Keep the straps the same width as they curve down both sides. The flap faces down over the body; it is not a second rim around the bag.

Draw the pocket and attached apple
Turn the lower box into one rounded front pocket, add its zipper seam and short pull, then draw one small apple with exactly one leaf hanging from that pull beside the lower-right bag edge.
Marker tip: The apple starts at the zipper pull, so keep its loop touching the pull and its body close to the bag. Leave both highlight shapes as plain paper from the start.

Ink and map every color
Ink only the established contours, then place visible coral, yellow, teal, red, green, and navy marker strokes in every planned color region without completing the fills.
Marker tip: Ink the zipper pull and apple first, then rotate the page for long bag curves. Use directional strokes and leave small unfilled gaps for the final pass.

Finish the school-ready bag
Complete only the established marker fills, selectively strengthen existing black contours, and add small highlight and shadow accents.
Marker tip: Preserve the two paper highlights and count two straps, one pocket, one apple, and one leaf before stopping. Do not add books, pencils, a face, or lettering that the earlier steps did not build.
